WHAT I'M WEARING

JUMPER - PRIMARK
SKIRT - TU CLOTHING
BOOTS - DR MARTEN X LAZY OAF
BAG, GLASSES, CHOKER - PRIMARK

I don't shy away from many things when it comes to clothing, fur coats ✓ PVC pants ✓ crazy hats ✓ but the one thing I've always struggled with is skirts. Don't get me wrong I love them ... but on other people. I'm like Goldilocks when it comes to skirts they're either way too short or way too long and when I do find one with a perfect fit I never know how to style it!

So this week I have challenged myself to style a skirt that I hadn't worn yet, despite buying it quite sometime ago, to push myself out of my comfort zone. I think it's important to push yourself out of your comfort zone every now and then. Even if your happy with your look and aesthetic trying something different will help you evolve your style. Try not to limit yourself either as it is way to easy to brush off an item believing that it will never suit you or your figure. Nine times out of ten this isn't the case, it's a matter of finding the right fit and cut and just having the confidence to wear it!

I know it's easier said then done as it can be scary trying something new and different to your usual look. Just take tiny steps and try on at least one item that's out of your comfort zone every time you go shopping, even if it's as little as new colour or a different fabric that you've never worn before. Personally my favourite part of shopping is trying on something totally crazy and out there that's completely different to my normal look, it's fun and that's what fashion should be. A fun and creative way to express and reinvent yourself.

Now onto this weeks look...

"WE ARE THE WEIRDOS MISTER"

Obviously I began this look with a skirt, I found this particular one in Sainsburys would you believe?!  I loved it so much I had to get it, the colour, fabric and cut were just perfect, it was giving me major Clueless and The Craft vibes too, and we all know I love 90s fashion!

When I was styling this skirt I took a lot of inspiration from the film The Craft ( if you haven't seen it go watch it now!) it's a great source of inspiration if you like your 90s grunge / goth style.

As it's still pretty cold right now in the UK I chucked on a pair of thick black tights under the skirt but you could also opt for a pair of knee high boots or socks to keep you warm. I wanted to keep this look badass so for my footwear I put on my favourite pair of chunky Docs, this helps make the skirt look less feminine and a bit more edgy.

I tried on so many tops with this outfit, I think that's where I struggle when it comes to styling skirts but in the end I went for this oversized, distressed jumper. I practically live in oversized tops at the moment, they are just so comfy! I felt this jumper worked really well, I tucked it in on one of the sides to reveal the buckle detailing on the skirt, doing this also gives me a better silhouette. By tucking the jumper in at my waistline it emphasises how oversized it really is but also gives me more shape. I left the other side untucked as I love the distressed detailing on the hem. I then finished off this look with a few 90s inspired accessories with a PVC bag, a pair of round sunnies and a choker, tying the whole look together.

I am really happy with the outcome of this look, no more will I shy away from skirts!
I know it's only a little change as this whole look is very much my usual style, but sometimes that's all takes to refresh your look and to give yourself a little more confidence, and we all need that from time to time!

How do you push yourself out of your comfort zone?
