I am living for full black outfits right now!
It's my favourite go to colour so why not wear it all at once?!

Now I know it's not everyones cup of tea dressing head to toe in black and a lot of people tend to avoid it, seeing it as a fashion faux pas. But it's really not the case and besides this look can essentially be recreated in any colour you want!

WHAT IS TONAL DRESSING?

Tonal dressing is when you wear multiple shades of the same colour or in this look, for instance, entirely in the same hue. It's definitely a bold look dressing all in one colour but it will undeniably turns heads!
Also the best thing about this trend is that it is so easy to do!

So this week I am going to share with you my top five tips for tonal dressing...

1. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE ACCESSORIES

I love a good accessory or two or three... let's face it this outfit would be soooo basic and dull if I didn't accessorise!

When it comes to accessories there are a lot of options from belts and hats to rings and necklaces, I personally like to wear them all but you can pick and choose. What you need to do is stick to one or two colours, I have chosen black and silver as it accentuates the details and fastenings on my leather jacket. As you can see I have placed accessories throughout this entire look from top to bottom, this adds points of interest to the outfit, giving your overall look a more cohesive and finished feel.

2. WEAR A PRINT

Another way to add interest to a tonal look is through print. Prints are a great way to break up any solid colours and they give a lot of dimension to what could of be a very plain and bland outfit. For this look I went for a subtle print with these check/grid trousers but you could also go for a more bold look with the use of tartan or animal print.

3. USE CONTRASTING FABRICS

As this is a one colour look you can't really wear contrasting colours like you would normally when putting an outfit together. At first it can seem quite restrictive sticking to one hue, however to elevate and define your look you need to look past the colour and focus on contrasting fabrics and textures. For example in this look I've used a number of contrasting fabrics such as fake leather, cotton, vinyl and wool. Other interesting textures like faux fur and lace will also work really well, just have a play with different fabrics to see which works best.

4. IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

When I put together an outfit, whether it's tonal or not, I like to pay attention to details. I find that it's the small flourishes and accents really make an outfit pop. I think it's even more important to pay attention to detail when working with one colour as you don't want your look to get too plain or boring. My favourite detail in this look has to be the frills on the pockets and legs of the trousers, they are just so cute and really stand out!

5. CONFIDENCE

And lastly but not least you must have confidence.
Now you've committed to a one colour look you need to own it, project that confidence! It will ultimately make you and your outfit a lot cooler. Trust me!

So those are my top tips for tonal dressing, I hope you found them useful!
